ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Mian Shehbaz Sharif was declared the opposition leader in National Assembly, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to a notification issued by National Assembly Secretariat, the NA Speaker declared Shehbaz Sharif as opposition leader with effect from August 20, 2018.

The PML-N president won general elections from Lahore’s NA-132 constituency and also participated in the elections for prime minister.

Shehbaz was an opposition alliance’s joint candidate but the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP) decided to abstain from voting in his favour or the elected PM Imran Khan.

Shehbaz could only get 96 votes against Imran Khan’s 176 votes from his party’s legislators and allies.
