ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday assigned Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif to resolve Dawn Leaks issue with Army through backdoor diplomacy, ARY News reported.

ARY News Correspondent Anjum Wahab said the prime minister summoned a high-level meeting of close aides to discuss how to defuse the controversy surrounding Dawn Leaks notification.

Nisar Ali Khan, Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz, Secretary to the PM Fawad Hasan Fawad and Maryam Nawaz Sharif were also present on the occasion.

Sources said the premier has given task to the two senior leaders to take Army into confidence to accept the notification issued by the PM Office as it was. Hence, Nisar will leave for Islamabad on Monday to talk to high military officials, sources added.

This should be noted that a notification issued by the PM Office on Saturday dismissed Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi from his position for having alleged involvement in Dawn Leaks issue. However, the notification was rejected by the Army.

Bureau Chief ARY News Lahore Arif Hameed Bhatti said Fawad Hasan was specially summoned in the meeting for he had contacts with high military officials which would be utilised to bring the government out of possible crisis.

On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz in a tweet rejected the news circulating in local media regarding the meeting.

“All statements being attributed to PM on media after the consultative meeting are incorrect. No one has been assigned any task by the PM,” she said.
