Monday is an exceptional day in the history of Pakistan as a serving prime minister – who is currently in London awaiting a heart surgery on Tuesday – would give an e-assent to the country’s budget while overseeing other affairs of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House, the premier would chair back-to-back meetings of the NEC and federal cabinet through video link straight from Pakistan’s High Commission in London.

Under the Constitution of Pakistan, the federal budget must be approved by the PM-headed NEC first before it is laid before the National Assembly.

During his stay in London, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be assisted by his Principal Secretary, Military Secretary and other staff members in London.

Although PM Nawaz Sharif has to go through a complicated medical procedure, he was in constant contact with the federal ministers, cabinet members and other concerned officials from London, the statement highlighted.

The PM House reiterated the country’s affairs would continue to run, the way they must, without any delays or postponements.
