LONDON: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday met deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the latter’s son’s office in London, ARY News reported.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, and Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq were present on the occasion.
Political matters and those related to progress on various development projects came under discussion at the huddle.
Abbasi will depart for New York to lead Pakistan delegation at 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly starting from Monday.
In a statement, Foreign office said the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders and the Secretary General of the United Nations.
The annual gathering of the 193-member body will give Pakistan an opportunity to engage multilaterally and bilaterally to advance its priorities in diverse areas.
The general debate of the General Assembly will open on Tuesday with a focus on the theme, “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.”
On the sidelines of the General Assembly Session, the Prime Minister will address the Council on foreign relations besides interacting with the US Pakistan Business Council.
A meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir will also be held.
The statement said Pakistan will continue its constructive role and engagement at the UN with a view to protecting and promoting its national interests, including on core issues such as Jammu and Kashmir, counter-terrorism and a host of development and other matters.
