“Today’s Defence Day is of vital significance and I have firm belief that the country is stronger than before,” Gen Sharif said while addressing a dignified ceremony held at GHQ, Rawalpindi, to honor the heroes of 1965 war with India.
He paid rich tributes to the martyrs and victorious ones of the 1965 war and expressed delight for having many of them with him at the ceremony.
“Majority of perpetrators of APS attack have met their fate, armed forces and security agencies have brought worsened security situation of the country under control and established the writ of the state,” he said. “Now the institutions will have to play their role in making this peace durable.”

Message to India
Responding to the hostility of the neighboring arch-rival, the COAS warned of an ‘unbearable cost’ to the enemy in case of any aggression.
The supreme commander of the Pakistani armed forces categorically said, “Pakistan is ready for any kind of war, be it hot start or cold”.
Stance on Kashmir
He reiterated that Kashmir is unfinished agenda of the partition of sub-continent and said the time has come that the issue be resolved according to the resolutions of the United Nation (UN).
Concerns over Afghanistan situation
The army chief during the address expressed concerns over worsening security situation in Afghanistan and said the two neighborly states are closely-bonded and that no force can separate us from each other.
The ceremony was attended by members of the federal cabinet, political leaders, former and serving officials of the armed forces, relatives of the martyrs and other dignitaries.
