LAHORE: Pakistan Railways is constructing 180 flats in several cities including the provincial capital to provide housing facilities to employees.
According to press release issued on Friday, the directives have been issued by Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique. In this regard, Pakistan Railways will construct 180 Class 3 and Class 4 flats in Lahore, Narowal and Karachi.
Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Javed Anwar has instructed the project be expedited and completed by June next year.
The flats are being constructed by railway’s subsidiary Railcop and a private company, which bid for the lowest rate in an open tender. The cost of the project is expected to be Rs. 640 million.
In Lahore, the flats are being constructed at Stadium Road in Ghari Shahu, Yard area in Narowal, and I.I. Chundrigar Road in Karachi.
Railway spokesman has clarified that in Narowal, twelve Class 3 and 24 Class 4 are being contructed. In Lahore, 48 flats of Class 3 and 4 each are being constructed, while in Karachi sixteen Class 3 and 32 Class 4 flats are being constructed.
