“Now I think Team Pakistan should again put some brave efforts and play as unit during the world cup and perform just like their predecessors did when the tournament was last held Down Under,” Iqbal Qasim, who is also PCB Governing Board member told ARYNEWS.tv.
Iqbal said that it doesn’t matter if the team has lost two ODI series against World Cup hosts Australia and New Zealand in UAE recently.
“Winning and losing are part and parcel of any competitive sport so I think there is little use to think of losing few series when we have a big tournaments ahead of us,” he said.
“We should be optimist and look forward for a good show. There is no use to think that other teams would be stronger than Pakistan. Every team heading to Australia and New Zealand and the hosts themselves are all gearing up to claim the title. We also need to go with the same spirit,” he said.
He added that twenty-two years back, Pakistan went Down Under when the team was struggling with injuries and form. “But all of a sudden they bounced in the tournament and lady luck also smiled on them. The team gelled up well and then there was no stopping. I think Pakistan cricket team should now once more perform in the same manner and make sincere and brave efforts.”
Pakistan cricket team won their only World Cup title in 1992 under charismatic ‘Kaptaan’ Imran Khan, when the tournament was held in Australia and New Zealand.
He further said that Pakistan should now solve all issues from injuries to players’ suspension and focus on their efforts for the World Cup.
