Pakistan and India border security talks underway

A 16-member delegation led by Director General Rangers Punjab Major General Umar Farooq went New Delhi on Wednesday to hold talks with the Indian border security officials.

According to sources, Pakistan’s delegation will raise the issue of Indian violations of the 2003 ceasefire agreement. The two sides will also discuss the steps to curb cross border smuggling and handing over of people who stranded to other side of the border mistakenly.

The talks being held at the Indian Border Security Force headquarter in New Delhi will continue till Saturday.

Pakistani delegation comprises of the officials of Sindh and Punjab Rangers, Ministry of Interior and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).

A routine annual meeting of border security officials has attained importance in the wake of recent ceasefire violations by the Indian forces.

The officials will talk with their Indian counterparts in an attempt to defuse recent border tensions.

DG Rangers Maj Gen Umar Farooq Barki will hold a separate meeting with Indian Border Security Force Director General Devendra Kumar Pathak apart of delegation level talks in the visit.
