ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday demanded that either former prime minister Nawaz Sharif apologize to the nation over his remarks on the Mumbai attacks or else a case be registered against him.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi while quoting the PML-N supreme leader as asking what was wrong in his statement asked him why he felt the need to issue such a statement or summon Cyril Almeida in Multan via special aircraft to give him an interview.
He said Sharif’s statement caused an uproar in Pakistan and India and that the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting was to be called to discuss the issue.
“Today Nawaz Sharif rejected the Committee’s stance. Nawaz and his daughter’s tone and tenor imply that they have wittingly done all this.”
He said even allies of the government are not backing it over the issue. He said this controversial statement has the potential of leading the country from being grey-listed to blacklisted.
Qureshi asked Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take the house into confidence as to whether they are becoming a tool of world powers to serve their interests.
He said the premier says the statement was distorted by the Indian media and if this is so, why the important meeting of the top civil-military body had to be convened.
If the statement was wrongly presented, then why PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and party leader Chaudhry Nisar had been issuing clarifications, he further asked.
