ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khwaja Asif said the government opted for operation against militants following failure of ‘peace talks’, ARY News reported Monday.

Talking to media outside Parliament House in Islamabad, he said it was a decision of political leadership to opt for second option after failure of peace talks.

“Dialogue was an option that was used,” said the minister. Asif maintained that Pakistan Army had begun operation against militants, which was going on successfully.

To a question, the defence minister said he would further comment on military operation after prime minister’s address in the National Assembly.

Military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against militants has begun yesterday. At least 140 terrorists have been killed in air strikes by PAF fighter jets since the operation started.
