SHC serves notices to Faryal, others over irregularities in Larkana projects

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC)  on Monday served notices to PPP’s Faryal Talpur, Sindh Chief Secretary, Shafqat Hussain and others over financial irregularities of Rs 90 billions in Larkana Fund.

The petitioner, a resident of Larkana, in his request for restoration of his petition, told the SHC bench that he had withdrawn the plea after threats to the lives of his family members. However, the applicant maintained that since then he had moved his family to a safer place.

Therefore, he pleaded that his petition be restored to its previous position in the larger public interest. The court accepted the plea.

Sindh’s top court to take up the plea on November 16 and notices to Faryal Talpur, who is sister of former President, Asif Ali Zardari, Shafqat Hussain, Chief Secretary of Sindh and other concerned have been served over accusation of embezzlement in Larkana’s development fund.

Petition

According to the petition, after the 2008 elections, funds allocated for the development and beautification of Larkana city and other development schemes, were embezzled.

The petitioner alleged that roads and other development works were made without any proper planning besides substandard material was used in projects. Most of the reconstructed roads were damaged in the rains while several others had developed cracks. None of the roads improved or widened.

The applicant maintained that the people of Larkana were facing hardships in the form of traffic jams, dusty and polluted air, stagnant sewage water on roads and frequent accidents.

However, the provincial government of Sindh had been denying the allegations leveled by the petitioner in the plea.
