Nehal Hashmi not guilty of contempt of court: Punjab law minister

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said former Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi was not guilty of contempt of court, ARY News reported.

“Nehal Hashmi had sought unconditional apology for his act. His conduct was a criminal act rather than a contempt of court,” he said talking to media outside Punjab Assembly.

This should be noted that the Supreme Court has disqualified Nehal Hashmi for five years on grounds of his fiery speech in Karachi against judiciary. The top court through a verdict in the contempt case has also awarded him one-month jail term and a fine of Rs50,000.

The former PML-N stalwart was taken into custody from courtroom by police officials soon after the announcement of verdict to shift him to jail.

Hashmi had in a viral video threatened the apex court’s appointed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) members for interrogating Nawaz Sharif and his family members pertaining to their foreign properties.

Rana Sanaullah said on the flip side Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan was given unconditional pardon for his demeaning act.

He said Babar Awan had taken Rs35 million from “robbers” of Punjab Bank allegedly in the name of judges. He claimed that he had evidences for the fact.
