ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, on Feb 3, said deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari were either going to spend their coming days in London or in prison.

“Suspense prevailed over whether Sharif and Zardari would spend the last days of their lives in jails or in London,” said Chaudhry while responding to a question during his media talk.

Taking a jibe at Sharif, he added that the people who remained in power for 30 years should be ashamed of demanding medical treatment abroad.

The information minister expressed hoped that the courts, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other institutions would take into account how rich people were given preferential treatment in jails compared to poor prisoners. “Zardari has done some things over which no one can help him out.”

Chaudhry ruled out any serious differences between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

“PTI and its allies, including the PML-Q, were different parties and might have some differences which could be important but not of serious nature,” he said. “They are our partners and we will In sha Allah set aside these differences and move forward in the best interest of the country.”

He also rejected reports pertaining to suspension of an Elite Force official for saluting ousted premier Sharif while he was being shifted to a hospital from prison. “We are not narrow minded. As far his health was concerned, an independent team of doctors would make the final decision.”

Shedding light on the inflated gas bills, the federal minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken notice of it as it is an unnecessary burden on poor consumers. “The PM had directed the Federal Minister for Petroleum to conduct an inquiry into the matter immediately.”
