Najam Sethi elected as PCB Chairman

KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) head and journalist Najam Sethi was elected as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a three-year term on Wednesday. 

Sethi, 69, will replace Shaharyar Khan, who quit because of health and personal reasons after completing his tenure.

Sethi was unopposed and was unanimously elected by a 10-member new PCB board of governors.

Pakistan’s deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had appointed Sethi as member of the board of governors last month. It is mandatory, according to the PCB’s constitution, that the chairman should be elected from the members of the board of governors.

Sethi was also a former caretaker chief minister of the Punjab and was dubbed the key official behind the successful staging of domestic Twenty20 league PSL.

Najam Aziz Sethi is a prominent analyst and opinion maker who is also currently member of the PCB’s Board of Governors, Chairman Executive Committee PCB and Chairman Pakistan Super League (PSL). He is a senior media personality who analysis on national and international issues.

Legendary pacer Wasim Akram says: “I support him all the way and the main reason is PSL. Many people before him discussed the idea of PSL but no one was able to materialise the plans. Sethi not only made is possible, but organised two successful editions of Pakistan’s top class T20 league and also the final of the second edition in Lahore.”
