KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday ordered inquiries against several high-profile people including former Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar over allegations of corruption, ARY News reported.
Directing for investigation into different cases, the director general NAB has said inquiries would be held against the Karachi mayor and officers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) into Rs36 billion funds issued to Karachi.
He said three inquiries would be held against the ex-Sindh Assembly speaker. Investigation against Durrani will be held for holding assets beyond known means, abuse of power, illegitimate recruitment, money embezzlement in construction of Sindh Assembly building and MPA hostel, he said.
NAB sources said Karachi development expenditures between 2015 and 2018 were shown excessively bigger. The sources said an inquiry would also be held against the director general Sindh Building Control Authority.
Iftikhar Qaimkhani will also be held accountable for possessing assets beyond known means, while the anti-graft watchdog has also ordered inquiry against SSP Pir Fareed Jan Sarhandi for illegal recruitment in police department.
