NA Speaker asked to form committee on electoral reforms

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif has directed the Speaker of the National Assembly to form a committee of members from treasury and opposition benches, regarding electoral reforms – ARY News reports.

According to details, Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif wrote a letter to the Speaker NA, Ayaz Sadiq pertaining to electoral reforms in the country. The letter asked the Speaker to form a parliamentary committee after consultation with the lower house and the Chairman of Senate.

The Prime Minister advised that the committee should comprise of treasury as well as opposition members.

He said that committees of both the upper and lower houses have already prepared detailed reports on reforms in elections, now comprehensive recommendations should be prepared for the conduct of transparent elections in the country.

PM Nawaz suggested the parliamentary committee should be determined to present strong recommendations on free and fair elections, establishment of care-taker governments and use of modern technology in elections.

‘The Government is ready for making amendments for the sake of these reforms’, said the Prime Minister.

Moreover, he urged that the parliamentary committee should present its report within three months.
