AUCKLAND: A weird object washed ashore on a New Zealand beach baffling locals and stirring debate whether what actually is the ‘creature’ lying on the Muriwai Beach.
Some people called it a giant alien-like object covered in barnacles.
Woman named Melissa Doubleday was driving past Muriwai Beach near Auckland when she encountered the strange scene about five kilometres down the shore.
‘Just curious to know if anyone knows what this is?’ she asked a community Facebook group. ‘I drove past and was like what the?’
Melissa Doubleday and her partner pulled over to photograph the mammoth dreadlocked thing around 7:30pm on Friday night.
“I just thought, ‘What the hell is that?'” Ms Doubleday told Newshub.
She posted the photos to Facebook on Saturday, asking: “Just curious to know if anyone knows what this is??! Washed up on Muriwai Beach.”
The bizarre object was reminiscent of scenes on NZ’s beaches after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake lifted the seabed two metres and exploded through the sand.
Once submerged, the rocks – covered in barnacles, limpets and seaweed – were pushed up above the surface.
