RAWALPINDI: The police official finally traced the long-missing personal secretary of late Maulana Samiul Haq and arrested him as a major development in the murder probe of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) slain chief.
According to sources, the personal secretary, Ahmed Shah, had mysteriously disappeared following the murder incident. Since then, the investigating officials had been looking for him and labelled the man as a person of interest in the high-profile assassination case.
The intelligence agencies took Shah into custody six days ago and then handed him over to the Rawalpindi police, sources added.
As per reports, the secretary of Haq is said to have discovered the body of his chief after his murder. Also, Shah was the first to inform Maulana Hamidul Haq, the son of Maulana Samiul Haq, of his father’s demise.
Assassination of Maulana Samiul Haq
Hamid ul Haq, son of Maulana Samiul Haq, said his father was unwell and taking rest at home when he came under the attack.
He said Maulana Sami ul Haq’s driver and gunman were away when he was stabbed and added that when one of his servants returned, he saw his father lying in a pool of blood.
