The lawyer representing Qandeel Baloch’s parents in the social media celebrity’s honor killing case on Wednesday said that his clients are sure religious scholar Mufti Qavi is behind their daughter’s murder, ARY News reported.
Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Safdar Shah maintained that his clients “do not suspect but are sure” that Mufti Qavi is behind the murder as the famed selfie with Qandeel severely damaged Qavi’s reputation and he lost his membership of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the controversy surrounding his meeting with the social media star.
Shah added that Qavi was further angered by Qandeel’s press conference in which she claimed that she is receiving death threats.
“I think that Mufti Qavi is lying when he says that he doesn’t know where does Qandeel belong to, as Qavi and his forefathers belong to Shah Sadr Din ( a small village near Multan), the same village where Qandeel lived,” said Shah.
Qandeel’s father, Muhammad Azeem, too told ARY News that Qandeel was terrified when she returned to her Multan home and expressed fear that Mufti Qavi’s men might kill her.
“She was terrified and was hiding her face, she told us that Qavi has threatened her that if she will go to Multan, his (Qavi) disciples will not spare you,” said Qandeel’s father.
QANDEEL Baloch’s MURDER
In June last year, social media sensation Qandeel Baloch uploaded selfies on her Facebook and Twitter accounts with Mufti Abdul Qavi, which went viral. Qandeel who was followed by millions on both the social media platforms later claimed that she is receiving threats after the incident.
Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs, however, revoked Mufti Abdul Qavi’s membership of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Qandeel was murdered by her own brother in the name of honor just one month after the incident.
