ISLAMABAD: Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr. Farooq Sattar said on Monday that economic crisis of the country can easily be countered by bringing three million tax defaulters in tax net, ARY News reported.
While presenting shadow budget via press conference in Islamabad today, Dr. Farooq Sattar suggested the relief can only be given to the people by decreasing price of electricity, petroleum products and food commodities.
He warned that a private paper may be sent to whom the government has issued Rs 3.5 billion in the account of circular debt.
“MQM will bring people on roads if government issues new currency notes and try to recover the circular debt amount from people under the name of electricity” he added.
Dr. Farooq Sattar urged to take effective measure to curb terrorism and criminal activities. He suggested to lower non-developmental expenditures to 70 per cent from 82 while increasing developmental expenditure to 30 percent from 18.
Speaking about Karachi mega project, MQM leader said government has given assurance to allocate the package of Rs.150 billion for the Karachi, which will be utilized for circular railway project, Mass Transit, K-4 Water Project, betterment of electricity system and for reform in industrial structure.
In the shadow budget, MQM has advised that salary of a common man should be raised to at least Rs.20,000 and also asked to increase the pension by 15 per cent.
MQM has demanded that privatization should be done through public-private partnership and also to initiate projects to fulfill housing needs.
