Moor is Pakistan's official consideration for Oscar

Ever since its release and reception, Moor has garnered rave reviews and clocked in a decent amount at the box office. The film has been chosen as Pakistan’s consideration for the Oscars, under the category of Foreign Language Film.

Moor stars Samiya Mumtaz and Hameed Sheikh in the lead roles. It is the story of a station master who’s efforts to save a railway station from certain closure whilst simultaneously attempting to reconcile with his son, who has struggles of his own. It is an Urdu-Pashto language film and highlights the declining railway station in Pakistan’s largest province Balochistan.

Produced by Azad Film Co. and Mandviwalla Entertainment, Moor will have its international premiere at the Busan Intl. Film Festival in October, in the A Window on Asian Cinema strand. The deadline to enter the movie in Academy Award’s foreign-language film category is October 1 and the nominations will be announced Jan. 16 after the entries have been shortlisted to nine films.

The 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28th of next year at the Dolby theatre.

Jamshed Mahmood Raza is a renowned director in Pakistan, who has worked with previous A-list Pakistani actor before. His 2014 spy thriller film 021 starred Shaan and other reputable actors.
