KARACHI: The University of Karachi (UoK) Professor Dr Muhammad Ismail on Wednesday reached home safely after being missing for around two weeks, ARY News reported.
The Islamic Studies professor at UoK had reportedly gone missing on September 15, family sources said.
However, the university administration and family had remained tight-lipped over the professor’s abduction for reasons better known to his colleagues and the family members.
Blurting out for first time before the media, the family said Dr Ismail was abducted by ‘unknown people’, who broke into the house, took the professor forcefully along with them.
The academic’s wife said that Dr Ismail reached home at 2:00 am last night, confirming that the professor was not subject to any kind of torture during the abduction.
On his abduction, the varsity administration including Vice Chancellor Dr Ajmal Khan refused to make a comment.
Earlier on Sept 21, members of an intelligence agency carried out a raid and arrested three alleged suspects from the staff colony of the varsity.
The raid was conducted on the indication of captured Ansarul Shariah member – Danish Rashid – who apprised his interrogators about presence of suspected terrorists affiliated with the organization at the university’s staff colony.
The organization came in media spotlight in September after carrying out an attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P) senior leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan on first day of Eid-ul-Azha.
