Mini budget, appointment powers to Dar by PM challenged in LHC

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday here accepted a petition for hearing in which the Prime Minister’s decision to delegate powers pertaining to supplementary budget and key appointments to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, ARY News reported.

Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi in his plea to the high court has challenged the delegation of powers of the federal cabinet to the finance minister by terming it violation of a Supreme Court ruling.

The petition says that giving finance minister the authority to appoint heads of government institutions and issue a mini budget was contrary to the orders of the apex court.

The petitioner pleaded to the high court to declare the newly delegated powers to the minister as null and void.

The bench comprises of Justice Atir Mehmood while admitting the petition for hearing issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif through his principal secretary and the ministry of finance seeking their replies by April 17.
