“The well-marked low pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea has rapidly intensified into a deep depression during last 12 hours at about 1000km south of Karachi,” read the Met Office alert. “This system is likely to intensify further into a Tropical Cyclone in next 12-24hrs and move in northwestward direction.”
The alert further read that sea conditions along Sindh-Makran coast are likely to remain rough to very rough, coupled with strong squally winds from Monday afternoon to Friday.
Met office advised fishermen of Sindh not to venture in open sea from Monday afternoon to Thursday, while those of Baluchistan from Tuesday to Friday.
The alert also mentioned that the nearing cyclone can cause heavy rains in several cities including Karachi.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Sharjeel Memon advised the Administrator Karachi for removing hoardings and billboards across Karachi.
The directives were given in order to avoid any losses in the wake of approaching cyclone.
He also advised the concerned authorities to remain on stand-by in case of any emergency.
