LHC dismisses Khalid Latif’s plea against PCB anti-corruption proceedings

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a petition filed by suspended Pakistani cricketer Khalid Latif against proceedings of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s anti-corruption unit, ARY News reported.

A single bench of LHC comprises of Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza heard the petition.

A petition filed by Khalid Latif argued that constituting an ‘anti-corruption unit’ was against the constitution of PCB as the board has no jurisdiction to impose a ban or issue notices, hence the court should declare all proceedings, notices and ban order against him nullified.

The PCB lawyer argued that the board of governors in 2015 had granted permission to PCB to constitute an anti-corruption unit to get rid of spot-fixing and cheating practices. Therefore the tribunal proceedings and notices were according to the law.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the bench rejected the petition.

Following the hearing, lawyer of Khalid Latif said that he would challenge the court verdict in the Supreme Court.
