DUBAI: Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson scored the highest knock of this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) to lead Quetta Gladiators to a comprehensive 67-run victory in the reverse game in Dubai on Thursday.

Player of the Match, Watson smashed seven sixes and five boundaries during his 58-ball 90 not out to help Quetta Gladiators to 180-4 after they were sent into bat. Karachi Kings finished with 113-8 in 20 overs, losing by the biggest margins in the entire PSL.

The previous biggest margin of defeat of 63 runs was handed to Quetta by Lahore in the first PSL.

Karachi Kings were never in the hunt for the second highest target in this year’s league as they sent Shahid Afridi to open the innings, with both, him and Joe Denly, departing off the first nine deliveries of the innings.

Babar Azam hit run-a-ball 32 with three boundaries and a six but was caught brilliantly at long-on by Anwar Ali to end any hopes of Karachi win.

Imad Wasim did his best during 32-ball 35 with three boundaries and a six while Mohammad Rizwan laboured to 27-ball 26 without any boundary.

The victory gives Quetta third place in the points table with eight points in seven matches. Multan Sultans are sitting atop the table with nine points in seven followed by Islamabad United with eight in six. Karachi Kings are fourth with seven and Peshawar Zalmi fifth with six points.

Earlier, Watson benefitted from two drop catches to beat the previous highest individual score in this year’s league of 85 set by Multan Sultans’ Sohaib Maqsood against Peshawar.

Watson was on 51 when Usman Shinwari let him off at deep cover while Colin Ingram dropped him at mid-wicket boundary off a luckless and expensive Mohammad Irfan when on 82.

Watson put on 60 with Asad Shafiq (15) and then another 69-ball 86 for the second wicket with Kevin Pietersen as Quetta amassed 50 in the last five overs.

Pietersen hit seven fours and a six off just 34 balls to give ample assistance to Watson.

Irfan went for 41 in his three overs while skipper Imad Wasim conceded 25 in his two.

Table’s top team Multan Sultan will hope to beat Lahore Qalanadars to qualify for the qualifiers while Peshawar Zalmi will face Islamabad United in Friday’s games.
