Karachi: Helmet-wearing termed mandatory for pillion-riders including women

Citizens of Karachi will have to wear helmets while on pillion riding till June 8, whether men or women, young or old.

DIG Traffic Ameer Sheikh on Thursday defended the decision with a strange logic that nearly 60 percent accidents in the megapolis involve bike-riders. He also referred to neighboring India in this regard.

The citizens, however, opined on the contrary saying that the restriction will lead to increase in bribe-seeking by police, while those associated with helmets business will also exploit the poverty-stricken people.

The wearing of helmets by the driver and the companion may also give rise to targeted killings in the city.
