Today turned out to be Karachi’s chilliest morning of the season, with the temperature touching 14°C. This is perhaps a sign that winter is well and truly here for the country’s largest city.

A spokesman of the Pakistan Meteorological Department had said last month that the coming winter season could be the harshest for the country. And all of this was due to last month’s pre-winter rainfall. This is the heaviest pre-winter rainfall in Pakistan’s history and has affected more than 80 per cent of country,” he had said.
Temperatures in the north of the country have already fallen sharply in recent days with snowfall reported from Chitral, Dir, Kaghan Valley and Swat. This has made life miserable for the thousands of people who were displaced by the earthquake that jolted the region and neighbouring Afghanistan some weeks ago.
In the last 24 hours, the coldest place in Pakistan was Kalat where a low temperature of -7 was recorded. The Met Department also predicted a cold and dry weather for the country’s Northern areas and Quetta. Light rainfall was also recorded in some parts of Gilgit Baltistan during the last 24 hours.
