KARACHI: Many areas of the metropolis continued to experience prolonged and unannounced power cuts in the sweltering summer on the fifth day of the holy month of fasting, ARY News reported.
The areas affected by extensive power cuts included Lyari, Nayaabad, Malir, Khokhrapar, Kemari, Surjani, Orangi Town, and North Nazimabad.
K-Electric’s spokesperson, however, termed power breakdowns in the affected areas due to localized faults. The electricity will be restored to these areas shortly as the company’s staff was busy clearing faults, he added.
People had to spend another sleepless night owing to hot and humid weather coupled with prolonged load-shedding as fasting citizens ate their Sehri without power.
Contrary to the federal government’s claims of having reduced load-shedding during the sacred month of Ramazan, power distribution companies continued to carry out load-shedding up to 10 to 16 hours throughout the country, making the lives of people miserable.
The start of Ramazan was marked with major electricity breakdowns in parts of the Sindh province, particularly Karachi, where citizens reeled under announced and unannounced power outages in the hot weather without the sea breeze that helps bring the mercury level down.
