Junaid Jamshed’s body to be brought back Karachi today

KARACHI: The body of the iconic Junaid Jamshed, singer-turned-preacher would be brought back to his home in Karachi today (Wednesday) as Pakistan continues to mourn his death along with other victims of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash.

On Monday, Jamshed’s body was identified with the help of facial X-ray and his dental history since all the bodies of the PK-661 plane crash victims were unidentifiable. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Capt (Retired) Mushtaq Ahmed also confirmed the body identification.

“Junaid Jamshed’s funeral prayers will be held on Thursday at Moin Khan Academy Ground DHA and as per his will, Junaid will be laid to rest in Darul Uloom Korangi,” Brother Humayun Jamshed had already told media.

The government said that the identification process of all PK-661 plane crash victims was likely to complete by December 17.

So far, the identification of 12 victims using latest technologies was conducted while the remaining 35 bodies would be identified through DNA testing, according to government officials.

An ATR-42 aircraft carrying 47 people en route from the mountainous Chitral to capital Islamabad issued a Mayday call on Wednesday last week before losing radar contact and crashing into a mountain, killing everyone on board.

The aircraft appeared to have suffered a failure in one of its two turboprop engines just before the crash, to be confirmed by an investigation.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) also grounded its fleet of 10 European-made ATR planes after the tragic crash for a ‘shakedown’ checks.
