However, it was once revealed that Chastain walked out of the film with Cruise to star in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ which earned her first Best Actress nomination from the prestigious Academy Awards. Not just that, the ‘Top Gun’ star helped to make the exit for the co-actor a smooth one.

It was Cruise’s post-apocalyptic action adventure ‘Oblivion’, the role of Julia that Chastain got rid of to essay CIA analyst Maya Harris in the American thriller.

“I got cold-called by [director] Kathryn Bigelow. I was in Toronto, and I had heard from [producer] Megan Ellison. We had done a film, Lawless, together. And she said, ‘By the way do you know Kathryn Bigelow’s trying to get a hold of you? She wants to meet with you on something’,” Chastain had revealed the conversation with Ellison, right before the shoot of ‘Oblivion’

.

However, she had already signed the contract which didn’t allow her to quit the project.

Being honest about it, Chastain said that she was not interested in the Cruise-starrer at that point and he helped her to sign Bigelow’s project.

Why Angelina Jolie felt guilty while filming ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’?

“Someone contacted him from my agency and said, ‘Listen, she wants to work with you. And she would love to, but there is this other film, and it’s so important. And with his support, I was able to do this movie. He’s a pretty incredible human,” Chastain had said of Cruise.

‘Oblivion’ was not the only film of Tom Cruise that Jessica Chastain had rejected. She was also offered ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ (2015) with the Hollywood star, however, she had to once again turn down the role as she didn’t want to train for six months for the role.

Both the aforementioned films combined earned a sum of $700 million at the global box office.
