Interior minister says Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism in its own interest

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday said Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism was in its own interest, and not for serving the interests of the United States.

He categorically stated that the government would safeguard national interest at all costs.

“Pakistan will continue playing its role for peace and stability in the region in collaboration with the regional states,” he said while talking to newsmen in Islamabad after visiting the weekly bazaar to review damages caused by fire there on Wednesday.

Ahsan Iqbal said the political and military leaderships have reviewed in detail US President Donald Trump’s strategy on Afghanistan and South Asia and outrightly rejected his remarks about Pakistan.

He said

the US narrative of financial assistance to Pakistan has also been categorically rejected with the argument that Washington was yet to pay Islamabad billions of dollars under the previous agreements regarding logistic support to the United States.

The minister stressed the need for forging unity among ranks of the nation to send across a message that the nation was united to face any conspiracies.

He said political instability was tantamount to playing with the future of the next generation.

Referring to the fire in the weekly bazaar, Ahsan Iqbal said the government will compensate the people who suffered losses due to the fire.

He directed Capital Development Authority to ensure safety measures at the bazaar to avoid any such incident in future.
