Initial investigation report on CTD police station blasts ready

PESHAWAR: The initial investigation on the CTD police station blasts in Kabal – Swat has been prepared by the security institutions, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The investigation report stated that two suspected terrorists had been brought to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Kabal – Swat a day before the explosions. Both suspected terrorists were killed in the explosions.

It further stated that the CTD police station – which is located at the safest place in Kabal – also houses a storage place for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police’s Malakand Division where ammunition for the past three to four years was stored. Moreover, ammunition from Bajaur, Dir, Swat and Buner was also stored there, it added.

It revealed that 300 to 400 kilograms of explosive material was stored inside the police station’s storage area other than mortar shells, IEDs and detonators. The probe report said that two security check posts were present before the police station, whereas, five policemen were deployed for its security.

It read that there is no report of any entrance from outside to the police station. The first explosion occurred at 8:20 and the second blast took place at 8:25 which led to the massive explosion of all ammunition.

IG KP rules out terrorism

Earlier, Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (IG KP) police ruled out terrorism from the twin blasts in the CTD police station in Swat.

As per details, the KP IG said that the blast took place when the explosives inside the police station exploded. He said that an investigation to find out the negligence is underway.

A two-member fact-finding committee comprised of the Interior Secretary and additional IG special branch has been constituted on the CTD police station attack in Swat.

At least 18 people were martyred including 13 policemen and 70 others including a lady police official sustained injuries earlier in twin bomb blasts inside a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Swat’s Kabal town.
