A former Indian politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by unidentified assailants while they were being escorted by police to a medical college here on Saturday night.
Atiq Ahmed, who was under police escort, was talking to reporters when a gun was pulled close to his head in Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad.
The shooting that occurred around 10 pm was caught on camera as mediapersons were following the duo.
Warning: Disturbing Visuals
At least two people, who posed as mediapersons, were seen firing from a close range at Ahmad and his brother who fell to the ground.
According to Indian police, the three suspected assailants had arrived at the site on motorcycles.
Ahmed’s son Asad and one of his accomplices were also killed in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13.
It is pertinent to mention here that Uttar Pradesh is governed by the Hindu-nationalist BJP, and opposition parties criticised the killings as a security lapse.
