ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) disgruntled parliamentarian Ayesha Gulalai on Thursday refuted claims and said she has not quit the party nor has any intention to do so.
The PTI leader was speaking to media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan where she was summoned after the party decided to expel her and strip her of the parliamentary seat in the National Assembly.
However, Gulalai appeared adamant and said that she respects the authorities and was issued a notice on August 31 to appear before the ECP and present her point of view. The case has been deferred till September 19 as the ECP asked her to submit a written response over a show-cause notice issued by her party.
Gulalai strongly lashed at PTI chairman Imran Khan but said that she has deep respect for the workers of the party.
“I have not left the party, nor will I do so. No individual forms a party. It is the collective effort of the workers of the party,” she said.
“The PTI is not the jageer (property) of Imran Niazi. It has the sweat of our hard work. Imran Niazi has no right to remove me from the party,” she added saying that the politics of falsehood, hypocrisy and deceit will not last long.
She further continued her diatribe saying that Imran Khan was not fit to lead a party which does not respect workers and women. She urged people not to attend the political gathering being held in Lahore on Friday as part of campaigning for the NA-120 by-election.
Gulalai went saying that Imran Khan is surrounded by corrupt people, while the chief minister Khyber Pakthtunkhwa is building a 18.6 million swimming pool. Imran Khan is holidaying in the mountainous areas while the people are suffering from dengue.
“These people have become feudal and landlords,” she said. “The politics of corrupt people will not last long. Shaukat Khanam Hospital was built with the contributions of the people,” she added saying that disgruntled parliamentarians support her.
Gulalai shot to prominence after a damning press conference last month accusing the PTI chairman of misogyny and sending inappropriate text messages. The charges were vehemently denied by the party who called it a ploy set up by the PML-N.
Last week, the PTI sent her a final notice to explain her actions and decided to expel her from the party. The party also wrote to the ECP to strip her from her reserved seat in the National Assembly as she was not longer a part of the organisation.
