KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Saturday said he had got approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan for four mega projects and their execution would start soon in Karachi.
“Construction of two main arteries and two large bridges have also been approved,” he said adding that the rotting transportation system of Karachi badly needed renewal.
The mayor says he expects something big from Imran ahead of his Karachi visit tomorrow. He said the PM had given green light to review the issue of census results for the metropolis.
He said he had prepared a document for contesting Karachi’s case before the PM in a meeting scheduled for Sunday. ‘I will request the premier that all the system of the megalopolis should come under the mayor Karachi and funds allocated for the city should be reimbursed,’ he added.

Lambasting the Sindh government, he said the Pakistan Peoples Party ruled the city like feudal lords.
“They have divided the city for two districts. The entire system of sewerage has been devastated,” he said.
Waseem Akhtar said Imran Khan was the only prime minister who was interested in resolving the issues of Karachi. He said he would bring the matter of K-IV water supply project afore him.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader said the next expansion in the federal cabinet would include a minister from his party.
For the educational sector, he said he had requested for special funds for University of Karachi and establishment of a new university in Hyderabad.
Imran Khan will arrived in the city at noon on Sunday.
