Hockey World Cup: Belgium beats India, Spain holds England  

THE HAGUE: Exciting contests were witnessed on the first day of the Men’s Field Hockey World Cup as Belgium defeated India whereas Spain held England to a draw in Netherlands capital city The Hague on Saturday, ARY News reports.

Belgium defeated India in the dying moments of their Men’s Hockey World Cup encounter. Spain took the lead in the first half but the Indian side bounced back and netted the ball twice in the second half.

The Belgian side scored two more goals in the final minutes of the game to win the match 3-2.

On the other hand, the encounter between Spain and England ended in a 1-1 draw. Alastair Brogdon scored the goal for England to give his side the lead but Edward Tubau scored the equalizer to end the match in a draw.

Earlier, Australia outclassed Malaysia 4-0 in the opening match of the World Cup.

Three matches will be played on Sunday (today). Netherlands will face Argentina, Germany will square off against South Africa and New Zealand will play against South Korea.
