BREDA: Pakistan hockey team finally registered their first victory with a huge 4-1 margin over top-ranked Argentina in the last edition of Hockey Champions Trophy in Breda on Thursday.
Following the defeats against India, Australia and a latest 4-0 against Netherlands on Tuesday, Pakistan were having a very few chances to remain in the tournament.
However the green shirts showed some powerful techniques to prove as a surprising package for the Argentinians.
In a do-or-die match, Muhammad Irfan Jr came up with an early goal on 10th minute to put pressure on the opponents. The lead saw the Argentine players counter-attacking towards Pakistan’s half to bring an equalizer as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Matías Paredes on the very last moment of second quarter somehow made an equaliser for his team to remain in the game but Mubashir Ali with his goal in the fourth quarter set a path for Ajaz Ahmed and Muhammad Aleem Khan to score two back-to-back goals to ensure first win for men in green in the tournament so far.
Pakistan with this win gained fifth position on the leaders table while Argentina will remain on fourth with one match to go. However Australia with their win over the hosts Netherlands, the other day got to the top slot with seven points.
Pakistan will take on Belgium in their last match of the round-robin format on June 29.
