LAHORE: Heavy rainfall lashed upper parts of the country on Thursday, inundating several areas of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The water level at Lai Nullah in Rawalpindi has risen to 17 feet after downpour in the city while many areas plunged into darkness.
Rainfall in Islamabad flooded various areas in the federal capital. The areas of Dhok Kashmirian and Dhok Kala Khan submerged. The passengers at Benazir International Airport faced immense difficulties due to the rainfall.
Meantime, moderate rainfall in Lahore and other cities of central Punjab including Sheikhupura and Sialkot turned the weather pleasant, beating the scorching heat.

On the other hand, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-thunderstorm (with few heavy rainfalls) along with gusty winds at scattered places in upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions), upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore divisions), Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir. Rain with thunderstorm and gusty winds also expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Bannu, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions in next 12 hours.
However, hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
The authorities concerned in the twin cities have instructed town officials to complete de-watering in low-lying areas as soon as possible.
