Heartbroken father prepares ill daughter for death by taking her to grave everyday

BEIJING: A Chinese father has surprised the internet with his extremely unusual act of taking his critically ill two-year-old daughter to her own grave every day to remove her fear of dying.

Zhang Liyong and his wife have done everything they can to keep little Xinlei alive – but now they can no longer afford to pay for her medical care, reported The Sun.

Heartbroken Zhang, from Neijiang city, south-west China, dug the grave to protest against the family’s harrowing situation.

He told Pear News: “We borrowed money from many, but they are no longer willing to lend us more.”

The tot is fighting thalassemia, a potentially deadly blood disorder.

Now he brings the two-year-old to play and rest at the grave every day to “familiarise her with her future burial space” so she is not scared when the time comes.

He added: “I could only come up with this idea – bringing her to play at this place.

“This is where she will rest in peace. All I can do is accompany her every day.”

People with thalassaemia produce either no or too little haemoglobin, which is used by red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body.

It is treated with regular blood transfusions and medication.
