PM Imran, Iranian president exchange views on tensions between Pakistan, India

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday exchanged views on overall regional situation and recent tensions between Pakistan and India, ARY News reported.

In a telephonic conversation, PM Khan apprised Hassan Rouhani about the ongoing escalation and Pakistan’s holding out an olive branch to the arch-rival country. Both the leaders also discussed Iran’s role in the current scenario.

The prime minister thanked the president for support on the Kashmir cause. They agreed to fortify the bilateral relations and increase cooperation between intelligence agencies to uproot terrorism.

PM Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the recent terror attack in Iran.

Rouhani said Pakistan and Iran were Islamic states and were bonded in historical and cultural relations. He vowed to continue peace efforts for economic development in the region.

Both the leaders also agreed to boost people to people contacts between the brotherly countries.

The premier is mulling over visiting the neighbouring country very soon.

Railways Minister Shaikh Rasheed on Saturday said that Iran’s President Rouhani assured him cooperation in the field of railways during his recent visit of the country.

“I have briefed Prime Minister Imran Khan about meetings during the visit of Iran,” Rasheed told media here today.

The prime minister will hold talks with Iran’s president in coming few days, the railways minister said.

The minister said that Pakistan will cooperate with Iran and Turkey in the field of railway.
