LAHORE: Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has been allowed to bowl in international matches after his action was cleared.
The International Cricket Council cleared the bowling action of Hafeez, and has permitted him to bowl in all upcoming international matches.
Hafeez was suspended from bowling for 12 months in July 2015 after he was reported during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka. This was the second time that he was reported within a two year period after he was initially suspended in November 2014.
On November 17, Hafeez appeared at the ICC’s bio mechanics lab in Brisbane where he underwent tests to reassess his bowling action. He hoped to be cleared so he could resume bowling for the national team.
Now the ICC has cleared Hafeez’s bowling action after it was declared to be within the legal limits, and all off-spin deliveries were within the 15 degrees elbow extension permitted under the regulations.
Hafeez thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the National Cricket Academy and their analysts, and the coaches for their efforts and support to help him rectify his action.
The 36-year-old former captain has been axed from the recently concluded tour of New Zealand and the upcoming tour of Australia due to his flailing batting and performance during the tour of England.
Hafeez can still be reported by umpires if he is suspected of bowling a illegal delivery and not bowling the legal action which has been approved after the reassessment.
