After the months’ long sit-ins, repeated rounds of talks, eventually the negotiations worked and an agreement constituting the judicial commission to probe electoral rigging was signed at the Punjab House, Islamabad on Wednesday.
Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar signed the document on behalf of the government, while Shah Mehmood Qureshi endorsed it from PTI’s side.
Attorney General Salman Butt, PTI leaders Jehangir Tareen and Asad Umar were also present on the occasion.
Upon signing the agreement, Dar praised the efforts of political jirgah and said that the government will try to implement the ordinance as soon as possible.
The judicial commission will be formed through an ordinance and it will start investigating alleged irregularities in last general elections within 45 days of its formation.
