She was chairing the meeting of the board of directors of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), which he instructed to expedite the process and place advertisements in mainstream newspapers for the internship project.
The interns will be placed at IT companies, IT departments of telecom sectors companies, banks and other organizations to assist graduates develop the skill set to increase their employment potential.
The minister also directed Managing Director PSEB Asim Shahryar Husain to develop a new interactive web portal for internship program by incorporating necessary details of all IT companies registered with PSEB and ensure that it is being updated on a regular basis.
The meeting also reviewed the progress on the IT park in Islamabad which is being carried out with the financial assistance of the Korean Exim Bank.
Rehman directed PSEB to conclude signing the loan agreement with Korean authorities so that ground breaking ceremony of first state of the art IT park comprising 45 acres land could be held at the earliest.
She was informed that the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) certification of the potential companies has been started and 21 companes are being trained in the first phase.
CMMI is a process improvement training and appraisal program that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes to improve usability of maturity models for software engineering by integrating many different models into one framework.
Rehman hailed the initiative by saying that this CMMI certification of potential IT companies will not only help them in their capacity building but also enhance their credibility in the eyes of foreign clients.
Moreover, it will be cost effective to use these local auditors for CMMI certification instead of using foreign auditors which are very expensive, she added.
