The decision was taken after the Commission Karachi Division wrote a letter noting that a large number of people especially youngsters gather at different beaches in Karachi particularly Sea View for recreation.
“A large number of visitors also swim or go close to high tides,” the letter read expressing apprehension of loss of lives and requesting the provincial government to impose a ban on swimming in the sea on February 14.
The commissioner also urged for taking necessary measures to avoid loss of lives or any untoward incident while swimming in coastal areas of Karachi.
Taking the recommendation into account, the Government of Sindh completely prohibited swimming at Sea View on February 14.
All concerned station house officers (SHOs) were directed to take due action and lodge an FIR against those violating the orders.
It must be noted here that nearly 40 people drowned to death while swimming at the same beach back in July 2014.
The citizens had flocked to the beach for fun-making on the occasion of Eid. The incident caused uproar both in the public and media.
