When you notch a Golden Kela award, you’re surely not bound to flaunt it. The reason being, it is no achievement!
The Golden Kela awards are the inspired version of Hollywood’s Raspberry awards (more popularly known as the Razzies.) The purpose of the award show is to highlight the worst performances of Bollywood, be it actors, actresses, singers, debutantes, directors or films and present them with a banana shaped, aptly titled golden kela award. Sinha has notched up the award for Worst Actor (Female) three times in a row. This year, she was recognized as Bollywood’s worst acting damsel for the movies Holiday, Lingaa and Action Jackson. She beat out Katrina Kaif, Sonam Kapoor, Tamannah Bhatia and Jacqueline Fernandes to win the award. Last year, when she had been declared as the Worst Actor (Female), Sonakshi hit out jocularly at the Golden Kela awards by tweeting a picture of herself with a real banana and writing:-
“What to do with a ‘golden kela’ when I got the real deal right here? 4 rupees only and edible too! Kela people -You want??Hehe.”
Other notable winners who won awards for being bad in their respective Bollywood roles were Arjun Kapoor (Gunday) whilst Action Jackson roped in another worst performer when Prabhu Deva won the award for Worst Director. Tiger Shroff was recognized as the worst debutante of last year. Surprisingly, popular and funky Bollywood hip hop star Yo Yo Honey Singh won two awards, the ‘Bas kijiye bohot hogaya‘ award. Also, his song Blue Hai Paani Paani was taken to task when it was awarded as the most irritating song of the year. Humshakals won the award for the worst film.
The Golden Kela awards should not be taken seriously by the Indian film fraternity as it is just a creative way of hurling negative feedback. Lessons can be learnt and acknowledged from these awards and each artist must realize which performances of theirs are pointless and should not be repetitive.
