The channel, which in the past, has aired plays like ‘Chup Raho’ and ‘Khuda Mera Bhi Hai’ which handled issues like sexual abuse and intersex people’s rights, is now bringing to mini-screen, the issue which may start the debate about how the disgusting trend of honor killing found roots among our domestic culture.
The play which will start from July 24, Monday has Jibran Syed, Iqra Aziz and Muneeb Butt playing central characters while veteran Samina Ahmed
The two teasers of the play, released by ARY Digital, show Jibran Syed speaking monologues like “Insan ki izzat usay sbsey ziada azeez hoti ha, agar kisi ne bhi isay daghdar krne ki koshish ki to me usay matti me mila dunga” (Honour is the dearest thing for a man and I won’t spare anyone who tries to play with it) and threatening one of his sisters with dire consequences which aptly show some male’s self-created definition of “honour”.
The other teaser shows Jibran Syed apparently burning one of his sisters alive and saying “Izzat Kay Naam Pr Hazaron Behnein Qurban” (I can sacrifice hundred sisters over my honour).
With incidents like the one in mega city Karachi, where a 20 year old youth who slit his sister’s throat for allegedly talking to someone on cellphone and countless others in rural areas of the country, the issue was the one which needed mini-screen exposure so every household can enter the debate.
