ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs not only allowed Qatari royals to hunt endangered Houbara bustard in Pakistan but also allocated at least eight areas for the purpose, ARY News learnt on Saturday.
A MOFA notification obtained by ARY News informs the Qatar Embassy that government of Pakistan has conveyed its recommendation to authorities in concerned provinces for allocation of areas to the “dignitaries of the State of Qatar for hunting of Houbara Bustard”.
According to the notification, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar Punjab province while Tehsil Musakhel, District Loralai and District Barkhan in Balochistan have been allocated for the purpose.
Authorities in Sindh province’s Dadu city and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district will allow Qatari royals to hunt the endangered Houbara Bustard.
Arab sheikhs from UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia travel to Pakistan each year to hunt the bird using the traditional Arabian method.
According to conservative estimates, between 500,000 and a million birds of all species migrate through Pakistan each year — flying south from Siberia to pass the winter in Central and South Asia.
