Five Shocking Facts about Dreams

Whether you believe in the importance of dreams or not, you have to admit that dreams can be extremely fascinating, which is exactly why we chose to write five of the most shocking facts about them.

1 – The Strangers in Your Dreams

Although strangers and people you have never seen before tend to appear in your dreams, you should know that your brain isn’t capable of creating a face you’ve never seen before and manifesting it in your dream.
With that being said, you have certainly seen those strangers somewhere, but you forgot, since your brain throws away all the unimportant information while you are awake.

2- The Number of Dreams

Most people experience around 4 to 6 dreams every night. This is due to the fact that we dream only during REM periods, which last anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour, and you go through the REM period a couple of times throughout the night.

3- Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is practiced by people all around the world, and is a technique that teaches you how to control your dreams. There are a lot of tutorials that you can find on the Internet that will show you exactly what steps to take in order to achieve a conscious state while in a dream.

This method of dreaming is also therapeutic, and can make you prevent nightmares.

4- Black and White

There was a large study conducted in 2008 in which it was concluded that people under the age of 25 rarely dream in black and white, while people over the age of 55 tend to dream in black and white about a quarter of the time.

This study was done to show how much what we see throughout our lives actually affects our dreams, as older people have experienced more black and white television than the younger generations.

5- Reading

Sometimes we are uncertain if we are dreaming or not. If you ever find yourself in such a situation again, try to remember that you could always check if you are dreaming if you try to read something. If you ever see a clock in your dreams, you can also try to tell the time.

If you are sleeping, you will notice difficulties while doing this, as the clock will always show a different time.
