The teaser for the sequel of much anticipated action-adventure role-playing video game Shenmue has been unveiled, developer and director Yu Suzuki announced in a blog post.
Suzuki also announced to have signed a deal with publishing partner Deep Silver to coincide with the Gamescon 2017 which kicked off in Germany.
He said that the team at Deep Silver really impressed him from the early days on the project with their deep passion for the series and their desire to work with them to deliver a proper sequel.
The game debuted at at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, and has been in development ever since in Tokyo. It is scheduled for a release on Playstation 4 and Microsoft Windows in 2018.
The teaser shows the latest chapter in Ryo and Shenhua’s journey which begins with a beautiful set piece in China.
Suzuki said they are aiming to significantly upgrade the game’s visuals. The teaser also shows the glimpse of a new character of the battle game play.
He thanked from the bottom of his heart all those who supported him and the team, and said he will continue to work hard to deliver the best possible realisation of Shenmue III.
Shenmue is a saga spanning multiple games which was conceived by Suzuki. It was one the most expensive game ever developed but was not a commercial success, but still attracted a cult following.
